Randy Blog #2

Two examples of EXCELLENT interviews

1.) Steve Jobs Rolling stone interview, 1994
-In this interview, the introduction was more lie a short bio of Jobs' business career.  It provided  great information that was later brought back up throughout the actual interview .
2.) The interviewer and editor did a really good job of  going from very technical and business related, to tying in personal accomplishments and goals. It created a more relaxed and inviting environment for the subject to expand on the question being asked.
3./4) this interview works well for a reader who doesn't know much about the subject because the introduction and questions were created for the reader know more about Steve jobs rather than read about just one achievement so on after the fact
5.) I would ask the interviewer  how much research they had to do in order to have a nice, full interview and genuine questions.

1.) Read for the Flight interview with Barack Obama
This interview stands out to me because there is a stronger sense of familiarity within the intro and questions than usual
2.)The interview was much like the introduction: a lot of referencing to past interviews and campaigns. The interviewer. Explained that within the past interview the president seemed to be more joyous and less serious than this interview since now he was talking about real issues with his campaign like mitt Romney and the  republican Party. It was good and let the reader know that he had done passed interviews with Pres. and the differences between those interviews and interviews he was going through now.

Harrison Bergeron Political Cartoon.

The message in my political cartoon is to show the severe contradiction in Harrison Bergeron, the short story. In the illustration is a woman with serpent like eyes and a conniving smile. She holds a double-barrel shotgun with the label "Gov. Issued" and a sash on her skirt with the word Government wrapping around it. This woman represents the Government in the book Harrison Bergeron , she represents the UNequality and their sameness type of living. She also represents the female antagonist in the story, Diana Moon Glampers. The Scroll on her right states, The Land Of the Free, and under these words are a list of things the people are NOT allowed to do. These things aren't just regular Prohibitions, they involve not letting the people under the law show their individuality, not letting them to show their differences and embracing them as something they were born with. Just like in Harrison Bergeron  she implements the same laws as does Diana Moon G. and portrays the consequences if one was ever to try and leave.( The Shotgun)

Political Cartoon Dissection

1.)The Purpose of a political cartoon is to send a political message through an illustration. It is supposed to represent events happening now, personalities and social messages. The political cartoon is there to give readers and the people of our country a visual  picture or representation of whats going on in our government in someones point of view.

The Metamorphosis Chapter 3

1.)I believe that Kafka was trying to send a message about happiness, how if ignored life no longer is important or something enjoyable. Gregor's constant need to please and work oriented mind set has distracted him from his own needs and leisure therefor his existence is sort of a waste. I believe when Kafka turned Gregor into an insect he was showing that without true happiness and respect of ones needs you can quickly die off and your life can simply be an obligation to another  to get  rid of, a pest if you will. Or he could be saying that you could be so easily unappreciated for what you do, but when you change, suddenly handicapped, or turned into an insect  all of a sudden you cant be seen by the ones you've taken care of.

2.)The reason for choosing a roach to portray the main character could be supported by the reason he was turned into an insect in the first place. He turned Gregor into what some believe is the most vile thing on Earth, even though he's done so much for other people. And when that happened he was completely disregarded as human on the inside and was left neglected because no one could stand the sight of him, touch him or even heal his wounds that they caused by penetrating his back with the apple. He chose that specific insect to show that no matter what happens to you or what you're turned into , even if it isn't the most aesthetically pleasing, you should never be neglected of your emotions and that you still have a heart.

Metamorphosis Chapter 2

FAMILY DYNAMICS:
How the Benefit From Each Other-
The Samsa support each other differently. While Gregor has been supporting his family by going to work everyday and paying the debt that his family owes, his sister aids him in his time of need when he is all of a sudden transformed into a giant insect. Although the novella doesn't go into depth about his relationship with both parents but his they seem to be a bit neutral when supporting Gregor.
"Anyway, I haven't completely given up hope yet.Once I've got together the money to oay off my parent debt to him-that should take another five or six years- I'll do it for sure.." Page 1
How They Harm Each Other-
Gregor parents fail to see how hard he really works to support his family. Take when his sister starts her job, they have  praise and lots of respect for her taking on the obligation that her parents hoped she'd fulfill. So she won't become a "useless woman".
The Samsa family also demonstrate how they can't handle a change in routine. How they can't accept their own son while he had to deal with this strange metamorphosis happening on his body.
"In the first two weeks his parents could not bring themselves to come vistit him, and he often heard how they fully acknowledged his sister's present work; whereas earlier they had often got annoyed at his sister because she had seemed to them a somewhat useless young woman."Page 11
5 Rules Crucial To a Healthy Family Life-
1.)Learn and try to understand the different personalities in your household.
2.)Accept your family for who they are and what they like.
3.)Family Discussions
4.)Having Dinner, or just spending time with your family members.
5.)Respect each other.

The Samsa Grade-

 I give the Samsa's a C.
I gave them this grade because of their lack in Social skill and understanding of everyone in the household. They do however respect each other very well in my opinion. They know who takes care of the bill and their debt.(Gregor) And I feel they give him a a good deal of respect for what he does. Also when he made his transformation his sister made sure that he felt comfortable in moving around and the food that consumed.

Metamorphosis Chapter 1

Answer to question 1:

I believe that Gregor would prefer to live life as insect or see it as positive because his responsibilities will lessen and he won't feel obligated to please everyone in his life at the moment. Perhaps becoming an insect would free him from his jobs. It's something different for a change, something new and adventurous. His life as a human was dull, boring and strictly work oriented. So much that even his parents agreed that he needed something else in his life, he needed to go out and explore the world outside of his job. So his transformation was the closest thing to being  put out of his Utopian mind set about never being late once in his 5 years, or never once calling in sick. Being this "vermin" and "monstrous bug" was something unexpected, no longer does he have to answer to his boss, no longer will he be underestimated and there's no doubt that he won't have to get to work before seven o' clock.
Gregor doesn't have to explain anything really to the shocked faces. His physical appearance says it all, and besides that, his new way of communicating doesn't help add to the oddness of his new unusual display. Speechless and terrified  the spectators of his debut fail to see Gregor, they see a monster. Gregor however is trying to get used to his new insect body and now trying to convince his parents that its him underneath the natural armor. Although he turns into this thing, in the beginning he honestly makes his plan for the day without even recognizing his condition and the state of being he transformed into. It's extremely hard to tell if he's noticing the good from this change or even noticing it at all.

Dear George.

Dear George,
I felt like what you did was more than  necessary. What Lennie had did had set him set him up for a nasty situation, even though he didn't mean any of it he was too strong for his good. It wouldn't have ended well at all. Rather that than let Curley or another one of the staff on the ranch take care of the problem at hand. I  feel like you two had bonded even more so because of the choice you had  made to make sure that Lennie died dreaming of their land that the two of you  had planned to move to. And although there was a constant argument, or lecture between the two of you , there was this vibe of sibling or  family ties. That's why I feel what you did was very necessary and that Lennie wouldn't have wanted to die in the hands of any other man.
There was more than a bond between the two of you. There was a complcated friendship that couldn't survive without the other. I feel like you really cared about him and thats why you made that decision to take his life and do it without fuss or without depricating him the way you always did when he hindered your plans to be a man without problems or someone to take care of.

"No, he said, I want you to saty here with me."-pg 102
