Metamorphosis Chapter 1

Answer to question 1:

I believe that Gregor would prefer to live life as insect or see it as positive because his responsibilities will lessen and he won't feel obligated to please everyone in his life at the moment. Perhaps becoming an insect would free him from his jobs. It's something different for a change, something new and adventurous. His life as a human was dull, boring and strictly work oriented. So much that even his parents agreed that he needed something else in his life, he needed to go out and explore the world outside of his job. So his transformation was the closest thing to being  put out of his Utopian mind set about never being late once in his 5 years, or never once calling in sick. Being this "vermin" and "monstrous bug" was something unexpected, no longer does he have to answer to his boss, no longer will he be underestimated and there's no doubt that he won't have to get to work before seven o' clock.
Gregor doesn't have to explain anything really to the shocked faces. His physical appearance says it all, and besides that, his new way of communicating doesn't help add to the oddness of his new unusual display. Speechless and terrified  the spectators of his debut fail to see Gregor, they see a monster. Gregor however is trying to get used to his new insect body and now trying to convince his parents that its him underneath the natural armor. Although he turns into this thing, in the beginning he honestly makes his plan for the day without even recognizing his condition and the state of being he transformed into. It's extremely hard to tell if he's noticing the good from this change or even noticing it at all.
